In February 2016, President Obama made his first presidential visit to a mosque in the U.S. In a speech delivered at the Islamic Society of Baltimore, speaking particularly to Muslim youth, Obama said, “You’re right where you belong. You’re part of America too. You’re not Muslim or American, you’re Muslim and American.”
This series of images is part of an ongoing project documenting the daily life of American Muslims in an effort to expand the narrative of Muslims, challenging stereotypes prevalent in mainstream media, including the notion that one can’t be both Muslim and American.
